Fewer Job Openings From Small Businesses

According to a recent survey by the Small Business Success Index, 69 percent of small business owners stated that they do not plan on hiring any new employees this year. Two percent also stated that they will lay off employees. According to this survey, only 28 percent of small business owners reported that they are planning on hiring an average of two new employees. Another survey by the National Federation of Independent Business reported that only three percent of small businesses plan to increase hiring. While these surveys do not report the exact same numbers, we did not find any statistics contradicting the fact that the majority of small businesses are not currently planning on hiring.
It is one of the nations highest priorities to find a way to increase hiring. According to the US Labor Department, “More than half of private sector workers in both the state and nation work for companies with fewer than 100 employees. Even for small businesses that are profiting, in an economy that still remains uncertain, many are hesitant to face the expenses of a new hire. However, if these businesses continue to see a growth in profit, they will be more likely to consider hiring in the future.
Do not let this discourage you. The most important thing is to get out there and see who is hiring. While several businesses are either on a downhill slope, or simply playing it safe until the economy stabilizes, there are other businesses who are in need of new hires. Just because the economy is not in great shape doesn’t mean there aren’t businesses that are prospering. It just means there aren’t as many of them.
